During the women's final of the US Open in New York last Sunday, August 8th, Taylor Swift The Darkness ' debut album
The video, which shows her singing with her boyfriend Travis Kelce , went viral and propelled the song to the top of the US iTunes Rock Chart, as well as soaring up charts around the world, more than 20 years after its original release.
The Darkness' classic has surpassed Linkin Park ," which had been dominating the rock charts since the band's return.
According to Variety , streams of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" on Spotify have increased by 70%, while searches for The Darkness have risen by almost 60%.
Taylor is not only a fan of the song, but also of the band. Lead singer Justin Hawkins revealed on his TikTok that he and his daughter received VIP treatment at Swift's concert in Zurich a few weeks ago.
“A few weeks ago, my daughter and I went to see Taylor Swift at the stadium in Zurich and the hospitality they showed us was extraordinary,” said Hawkins. “They put us in a lovely VIP area, I had Chris Rock on one side, Roger Federer on the other, I was dad of the year.”
“And to make things even more spectacular, Taylor Swift sent me a lovely letter that was waiting for me in the VIP section, talking about how much she loves the song 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love'. I was the father of the year, maybe the father of the century, because all of this was a huge surprise.”
Regarding the US Open video, Hawkins added: “It was a really emotional moment for me, and my little girl can’t wait to tell her friends at school. So, thank you Taylor, thank you Travis, thank you to everyone who loves tennis, that’s a really lovely start to the day. Well done, everyone.”
